The Foundation degree is for those currently employed as a learning mentor in either the primary or secondary school sector, Connexions PA's and other practitioners working with children and young people in educational settings. You will need to have an NVQ Level 3 in a relevant area, or equivalent, or two A-levels. Candidates who have completed a relevant Access course will also be considered.
This course is suitable for you if you are currently employed working with children and/or young people.
The course integrates academic and work-based learning and this is reflected in the overall content and in the nature of the assessments. You develop a wide range of expertise in all areas relating to your work with young people. You learn how to build effective relationships with children and young people, in addition to gaining an understanding of other professions and organisations whose purpose is to support and guide.
Modules will include both theoretical and practical information concerning how children and young people develop and the formative influences that impact on their lives. You will examine ethical and legal issues relevant to working with young people. You also study information systems and data management competency, study, research and interpersonal skills.

You must be currently employed working with children and/or young people. You need to have a National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) Level 3 in a relevant area, or equivalent, or 2 A-levels. Students who have completed a relevant access course will also be considered. Accredited learning provision also exists eg completion of LEP portfolio, and acceptance onto the programme.
Provisional fee for 2007/8 is £950 per year
