The sector-endorsed Foundation Degree in Working with Young People and Young People's Services will equip students with
the knowledge and skills to be competent, effective and efficient practitioners to work with young people and young people's
services. These services are concerned with the engagement, assessment, development, support and guidance of young people.
This foundation degree is for workers and managers developing careers in the voluntary and statutory sectors, for example,
as Connexions personal advisers, learning mentors, education welfare officers, youth and community workers and careers
guidance practitioners. It will also provide the basis for subsequent specialisation in other areas such as youth justice
and social work.
The course is 2 years Part-time. Attendance is Tuesday from 1.00pm - 6.00pm.

Entry requirements
The standard entry requirements are:
- Paid or voluntary regular work with young people.
- Recommendation for the course by the applicant's employer (who will ensure that applicant has
undertaken a Criminal Records Bureau check as an occupational requirement), and a subsequent
agreement by the employer about the type of support they will give the student.
- The minimum quality standard required by the University from the employer is that the employer identifies
a supervisor either willing to undertake the assessed UCPD for Supervisors or who has evidence of prior assessed
practice that meets the learning outcomes and national occupational competencies identified in that module.
- Qualification within the national framework at level 3, literacy and numeracy skills at level 2, or a
demonstrated ability to study at FD level 1 (a standard task will be used to determine this).
- A satisfactory interview for the course - showing the student's commitment to learn and succeed.
- An agreement by the student to work within the code of professional conduct for the course.
