Course Outline
The course will enable you to enter and progress your career in many professions
concerned with services for young people, for example: Learning Mentors, Trainee Connexions
Personal Advisor, Education Welfare Officers.
Two years full-time study involves 14 hours per week or Two and a half years part time study at
7 hours per week; covering 12 modules plus 2 periods of work experience placements within a variety
of agencies working to support young people.

- The Development of Guidance Theory and Practice
- Emergence of the Guidance Professions within a Multi Agency Setting
- Working with Young People's Services: Legal and Ethical Considerations
- Communication Skills in a Support and Guidance Setting
- Theories of Guidance Relationships: The Integrative Approach
- Young Peoples Personal and Psychological Development
- Facilitating Group Guidance
- Guidance Practice: Working for Change with Young People and the Communities and Agencies that serve them
- Guidance- Working within a Multi-Agency Setting
- Guidance - Ethical, Legal Considerations in Practice
- The Process and Practice of Evaluation
Entry Requirments
- An NVQ 3 BTEC National, GNVQ Advanced, an Access course or equivalent
- Two A levels at any grade, or a combination of one A level plus 2 A/S levels or equivalent
- Significant relevant work experience in a recognised settings
