Course Outline
This course enables the development of professional, legal and theoretical knowledge and practical skills appropriate to the role of Education Welfare Officer. It is suitable for those already in employment and those who wish to gain entry to this employment sector.
Modules are assessed by a combination of written assignments, presentations, service-focused assignments, case studies, multiple choice questions and contributions to a discussion board.
The teaching team has considerable experience of working with mature students as well as working with those who deliver services to children and young people. The School has successfully run a programme for Education Welfare Studies for eight years.
The length of the course is one year. Attendance at the University will be for one day per week. Students will also be involved in developing their skills and knowledge in the workplace. There will also be some distance learning as one module, Child and young person development, is delivered via the Virtual Learning Portal. This course will allow students to study an academic programme and also develop a portfolio which will provide evidence of their knowledge and understanding for a competence-based award, the NVQ4 in Learning, Development and Support Services.
Experience of, or interest in, working as an Education Welfare Officer or experience of similar work. Students will require an up-to-date Criminal Records Bureau check.
Course Costs £1,800 per person
