Entry Requirements: Please refer to the department for details of entry requirements. Initial intake for this course is due to be February 2007.
An NVQ3 or equivalent level of study will enable you to gain entry to this course. For those with no prior academic knowledge, you will need to have extensive experience in working in young people's services. In general, your academic potential, willingness to learn and ability to make a positive contribution are more important to us than your previous choice of study area. However, you will need an ability to listen, respect the views of others, research topics and consider and express your own views. You will also need to have a genuine interest in the subjects to derive maximum benefit from the course. A key component of this degree is the application of the ideas and information you learn in the taught sessions in your workplace. You will also need a certain amount of independence and self-motivation or be prepared to develop these skills. In addition, you will have good levels of written and spoken English and be good with numbers. You will also need to acquire good computer skills, but you will have IT training and full access to our computer suites. Some students are able to apply to start in Year 2, with advanced standing if they have an NVQ4 or equivalent. You will be invited to attend an interview with a course tutor, where you will have the chance to find out more about what is involved and we can find out more about you.
